Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) is government initiative to develop Seven (7) main selected crops such as Cashew, Coffee, Oil palm, Citrus, Cotton, Coconut, and Shea into cash crops.

As result, MMDA’s are expected to develop an agricultural project initiative taking into consideration one or two of the identified crops to support farmers in their various areas.

In addressing some of the farmers at the seedlings park, Hon Mustapha Mahama explained that the seedlings are an improved variety with a shorter maturity and would produce improved yields and good harvest compared to the local breeds.

Hon. Mustapha revealed that, as a tree crop, the cultivation of cashew is a very sophisticated operation, requiring some degree of technical expertise and for that mater farmers constantly need guidance and direction from knowledgeable extension officers to encourage them to apply the requisite crop husbandry practices to optimize yield.

The Agric Extension Officer (Mr. Sylvester) who was present assured the DCE and the farmers of their support.
