According to the Minister, Assemblies should provide waste bins and urged Ghanaians to be prepared to use the bins, as a long term measure in dealing with refuse within the Greater Accra Region.

She made this call when she paid a day’s visit to some illegal dumping sites that had been closed down, whiles others are yet to have mostly plastic waste to be evacuated due to illegal structures on the way that needs to be demolished.

Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah further appealed to the media to put a stop to practices which are not helping the fight against waste, “stop showing five years old footage of refuse”, she pointed out that it is not encouraging.

The Minister said with her visit to some major illegal dumping sites in the capital, she notice that there are a lot of plastic wastes and noted that, she is going to encourage scientists to give solutions in dealing with plastic waste in the area of recycling as at the same time is an avenue for generating job.

Again we would think outside the box to get some solutions and we need to sensitize ourselves to ensure that our surroundings are clean; where it is beyond the Assemblies as a Ministry we would come in, she stated.

“People shy away from the waste they generate, but it is from us, we cannot run away from the waste that we generate the earlier we get use to tackling this huge monster the better for us, where, you stay if I find garbage I would have you checked out”, she said in an interview with journalists.
