Officers of the Ghana Cocoa Board, the Presiding Member of the Ayawaso Municipal Assembly, Assembly members, NADMO officials, departmental heads of the Assembly, and the media were all present at the occasion.

Speaking to the media, the Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey explained that this year's exercise has been taken a step higher, with a request from H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for Ghanaians to plant more trees to conserve the country's forest cover and protect the environment.

He explained that the project is vital because trees and vegetation cover help to give oxygen, shade, and lessen storm and runoff, which are common in Accra during heavy rains.

Madam Owusu-Ahinkorah addressing the media said that “Trees are crucial for creating sustainable communities, preserving the environment, and mitigating the effects of climate change. This project will assist in greening, beautifying, and improving the air quality of the Ayawaso West municipality, as well as reducing heat and providing shade for the residents”.

She went on to say that the Assembly members and NADMO officials had been tasked with supervising the trees and ensuring that they grew well.

She also thanked the Ghana Cocoa Board as well as everyone who came out to support the green Ghana project.
