Bawku W: District works to boost edu infrastructure

The Bawku West District has taken stringent measures to improve on educational infrastructure as part of efforts to advance the standard of education in the area.

The district in collaboration with some stakeholders has begun renovating and constructing new schools in communities such as Teshie, Binaba, Kusanaba, Zuangoyire, Tilli and Temonde among others.

Madam Victoria Ayamba, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Saturday in Zebilla, the district capital, said the Assembly had noticed that the standard of education in the area was declining and needed a boost.

She said challenges such as high school dropouts, lack of furniture, inadequate teaching and learning materials, poor performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) among others were the cause of the decline.

“Basic Education is paramount to this district and we are committed to ensuring that the children get quality basic education that will prepare them well for the second cycle and higher education”, she said.

Madam Ayamba said the government had plans to build the capacities of teachers and would release 400 million Ghana cedis to support educational infrastructure and 100 million Ghana Cedis for the national school feeding programme to improve education.

The DCE urged parents and teachers to see education of their children as an important part of their development to contribute their quota.
