11 persons convicted over sanitation offences
The Adjaben Magistrate court has convicted and sentenced 11 persons to 30 days each in prison for contravening Act 851 section 56 (a) and (b) of the Public Health Act 2012.

Emmanuel Holornyo, Yahaya Assuma, Bashiru Zaaki, Abdul Wahab Inusah,Montario Muhammed, Victor Saviour, Akolobila Akudibila, Prince Kamorudren, Ibrahim Issifu and Umar Mohammed were convicted.

His Lordship, Isaac Addo presided over the court and fined Ibrahim Alhassan an amount of two hundred and forty (GHc240) Ghana cedis and granted bail to Nicholas Mensah, Adongo Cletus and Lawal Olarenweju of two thousand Ghana cedis (GHc 2,000) with a surety to reappear on June 13, 2018.

Mr. Charles Bosomprah, the head of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Sanitation and Monitoring taskforce in an interview noted that the operation was carried out around Old Fadama, Rawlings park, Kimbu, GCB Liberty House, Kantamanto, Tema station, National Theater and James Town.

He noted that the operation was carried out in the early hours of 6am on Wednesday 30th May 2018 and the offenses were open defecation, urination and indiscriminately dumping of waste.

Head of operation and Public Health Department at the AMA noted that the Assembly together with its environmental taskforce had cautioned the public against indiscriminately dumping of waste and openly defecating in unapproved places, adding AMA is bent on enforcing the by-laws.

He further disclosed that the operation would continue and cautioned households within the AMA jurisdiction without toilet facility to register with the assembly for the facility at a reduced price.

And further advised residents within the AMA jurisdictions to register with accredited solid waste companies than giving them to junkies, “we would arrest these junkies and come after you”, he said.
