He expressed his concern to Ghanadistricts.com in an interview after visiting some communities in the area.

He said, several illegal logs were seen in the bush and in some of the communities which indicated how serious the problem of illegal felling of trees in that part of the region is.

The DCE said the situation is seriously affecting their environment, it has affected the pattern of the rainfall and all these is due to illegal felling of trees.

He also claimed that a number of the illegal loggers are foreigners, adding that some arrests have already been made, and out of 15 vehicles carrying logs, only two were from Ghana.

He added that the problem is with those by the borders who have relatives in the other countries, so it is always their challenge but whiles they find their way into the territory they will arrest them and confiscate everything.

He further said a number of measures have been put in place to deal with the situation and at the moment there is a collaboration with their sister districts to jointly fight the canker to end the practice along their corridor
