N JUABEN S: Melcom commissions shop, hands over community centre

The Melcom Group of Companies has commissioned and handed over an ultra-modern Melcom shop and a multi-purpose community centre to the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly as part of the contract fulfilment.

The purpose of this project is to improve and satisfy customers and raise revenue for the Assembly.

Delivering the welcome address on behalf of the Regional Minister; Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive; Hon. Mrs. Comfort Asante commended the Melcom Group of companies for the kind gesture saying it will go a long way to better the lives of people in Koforidua and its environs.

Hon. Mrs. Comfort Asante said since private sector has been identified as a key stakeholder in the economic development it is also noted to be a major contributor to the national income and a job creator and employer.

She further stated that, it is a fact that the private sector provides the employment goods and services and contributes to tax revenue and undertakes critical development in the community to help leverage and mitigate developmental challenges for rapid urbanization.

The Municipal Chief Executive stated that opening of a new Melcom branch has been made possible because of the continuous effort the company has put in place to expand its customer base.

Explaining further, Madam Asante called on all private sectors to follow suit by putting in their quota to ensure developments in the country.

Receiving the Keys to the Community Centre, the MCE thanked Melcom for donating a Community centre building, 10 sewing machines, 30 chairs and tables for some selected schools to aid their academic performance.

The Joint Managing Director; Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani on behalf of the Melcom group of companies thanked all and sundry for their tremendous support towards the achievements in peace building in New Juaben.

In his address, Mr. Ramesh assured the good people of Koforidua to associate and support their efforts by creating additional job opportunities that the youth and people of Koforidua can take advantage of and improve their standard of living by upgrading their knowledge in the areas of operations.

He was however happy to announce to the communities in which they operate the Melcom Care Foundation as a subsidiary to cater for needy in areas like Education and Health.

The Krontihene of New Juaben Traditional Area; Nana Baffour Nyantekyi Tutu Boateng also commended the leadership of Melcom group of Companies for taking key steps in putting up the beautiful edifice which to him, will add more beauty to Koforidua and its environs.

He said the chiefs and people of New Juaben are obliged to Melcom for the construction of a modern community centre alongside the Melcom new shop that befits the standard of Koforidua.

Nana reiterated his appreciation to them for the kind donation of ten (10) machines for the needy as part of their corporate social responsibility and making positive and sustainable impact in society in its operation.

He was with the view that the repositioning of Melcoms’ shop will surely create a good relationship between the Chiefs and people of the Municipality.

“We Nananom of the New Juaben Traditional Area will continue to pledge our support to Melcom to achieve their co-operate objectives in creating jobs, provide goods and services to ensure quality and accountability to the people” he pledged.

He urged them to continue to envisage retailing as an important career in the people they employ.

He further asked the management of Melcom to carry out technological based strategic development programme to give more training to the staffs to build their capacity in handling technical issues like marketing skills, good manners, emotional intelligent skills as well as sales promotion.

Nana Takyi Boateng explained that opportunities should be made available to their employees to grow on the job so as to enrich them from the dead end of their occupation.
