Bodi District Assembly holds 2018 town hall meeting

The Bodi District Assembly with support from the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has held its 2018 town hall meeting at Sefwi Afere in the Bodi district.

The town hall meeting provided a platform for citizens to be educated on government programmes, policies and other initiatives aimed at addressing the various socio-economic challenges facing the citizenry.

The meeting attracted over four hundred (400) participants made up of Assembly members, opinion leaders, heads of department, traditional rulers from the district capital as well as all the recognized towns in the district notably; Sefwi Afere, Amoaya, Ahibenso, Suiano A, Bokabo, Besease, Kafukaa, Kama, Benomsuo and other members from the public.

Making his presentation, the Bodi District Chief Executive, Ignatius Akwasi Amankwah assured the people that government was doing a lot in the various sectors to positively impact their lives, and called for support for the government as it delivers on its promises.

According to him, government has taken a bold decision to address the unemployment challenges among the youth particularly graduate youth with the introduction of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) to cushion graduate youth as they await for permanent employment opportunities.

He said the current situation where majority of Ghanaian youth have completed different levels of education but have become burden on their parents is unacceptable hence the NPP government's initiative to mitigate this sufferings through NABCO.

He disclosed that a total of one hundred and fifty-five (155) graduates have applied for NABCO in the district and they are currently going through interview processes.

The Regional Information Officer, Nana Armstrong Asmah said the Town Hall Meetings are decentralized means of giving the members and leaders of the various communities nationwide the opportunity to discuss the progress of their communities.

He said this year, ministry of information is holding town hall meetings in all Municipal, Metropolitan and District levels to bring entire nation up to speed on government policies and programmes and to obtain feedback from the citizenry.

The Regional Information Officer said the government is working in all the sectors to ensure inclusive growth and development for the whole country.

Nana Asmah said the Ministry of Information has made gains by improving transparency and public access to information through meet-the- press series, town hall meetings and policy fairs.

The Regional Information Officer said the government has ensured fiscal discipline in the management of public finances and this has resulted in government attaining its budget deficit for the first time since 2006.

He said the government has established the national Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) to provide an integrated national support for early-stage (start-ups) and small business with seed capital of $10 million.

“The government is also implementing the Greening Business Management Initiative to train and equip the youth with skills and resources to transform vegetable production in the country and government is currently implementing the biggest Green House Estate project in West Africa.”

Nana Asmah said some special initiatives undertaken by government including the establishment of the Ministry of Zongo and Inner City Development, the first of its kind is to focus on the needs and infrastructural demands of the Zongos around the country, adding that a Zongo Development Fund Bill had been passed and established with an allocation of GHC219 million.

The government, he noted has also instituted three development authorities: Northern, Middle belt and Coastal Development Authorities, de-silting of major drains in Accra and implementation of the Person with Disabilities Toll Collection Initiative where 50% of the human resource for roads toll collection are now made up of persons with disability.

Nana Kwaku Nkuah II, Chief of Sefwi Afere, who chaired the function expressed his profound appreciation to the delegation led by the regional information officer, dignitaries, chiefs and the general public for the fruitful town hall meeting.
