According to the Minister, the GAMA project is one of the proud flagship projects of the World Bank, and she shared with them on her recent trip to Costa Rica.

“We have done well for ourselves, if you look at the amount of money government has put into sanitation, I do not think we have ever gotten this big amount of money to fight sanitation, some Ministers do not get such support”.

She further pointed out in her briefing that her Ministry has been placed on the priority list, “it tells you how serious the President in providing leadership on issue of sanitation, we have no excuse doing anything contrary in ensuring there is good sanitation and delivering on the Presidents vision”.

“When we deliver on the Presidents vision of ensuring we have good sanitation and the country is clean, it would be good for us and generations to come, Ghana is not only us, but for our grandchildren, we need to keep the environment important in our life”.

She commended GAMA for making Ghana proud, and added that as a country when we receive help from institutions outside Ghana we need to be accountable and make sure we produce the best.

“We need to challenge ourselves so that we can exceed our target, we need capacity building in solid waste management, especially for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)”.

We know the most of the Assemblies do not manage the waste themselves they give it out on contract to service providers, she said.

She also pointed out that, she expects each of the stakeholders to be up and doing and those not doing their work well should be brought to book, “that is why we have monitoring and evaluation ranking units”.

“We should stop it, dirtying our environment, we are all fed up with it we do not need it, if we do not want it we should desist from it should be eradicated once and for all”.
