AIS wins 2nd edition of Paul Ansah SHS quiz competition
Akosombo International Seniors High School (AIS) in Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region won the second edition of the Paul Asare Ansah Senior High School Quiz Competition held in the Akwamuman Seniors High School.

The program which was solely sponsored by the former Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) was on the theme "Raising the Standard of Education in Asuogyaman" which according to Mr. Paul Asare Ansah 'is geared towards stimulating competition amongst the schools in the District". It saw Boso Senior High Technical School (BSTS) emerging champions of the first edition in 2017 held in the Apegusu Senior High School last year.

The Akosombo International Seniors High School who took home GHS 2,000.00 for the School, GHS 500.00 for the teachers who prepared the contesting students and a brand new laptop each for the three contesting students as the first prize after scoring 49 points in this year's edition which focused on the core subjects English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Defending champions Boso Senior High Technical School emerged fourth with 33 points, Learning Field International Seniors High School occupied the 3rd position with 34 points also took home GHS 1300.00 and GHS 200.00 for the school and teachers respectively whiles the host school Akwamuman Seniors High School received GHS 1,500.00 for the school and GHS 300.00 for the team of teachers who trained the students.

Other schools were Apegusu Senior High School, Anum Presbyterian Senior High School and Adjena Senior High Technical School struggling at the bottom with the 5th, 6th and 7th positions after scoring 29, 27, and 26 points respectively. They also took home GHS 500.00 for the school and GHS 200.00 for teachers as consolation.

Mr. Paul Ansah explained that Cape Coast is well known for their quality academic excellent, and said, "Asuogyaman is positioning itself to transform its academic fortune to become the METUSEC of Ghana's education as he raise the red flag to schools in Cape Coast to be ready to welcome a competition from schools in Asuogyaman in the nearest future as he promised to organize vacation classes for all second cycle schools in the District".



The current Director General at the Ministry of Transport Paul Asare Ansah however disclosed that "education has always been my essential concern, because I will not be where I am if not because of education and it is my aim to ensure that every household in Asuogyaman District could in the next five to ten years boost of a graduate from either the Technical University or any other University in the country who could be able to financially support the families in every aspect of life".

The winner of the J. B. Dankwah Eastern Corporate Leadership Personality of the year 2018 stressed that "poverty should be eliminated from Asuogyaman District in the next 10 years to come as Asuogyaman is about to produce the best graduates to manager the affairs of the state and other well established organizations in the country Ghana and beyond".

Mr. Paul Asare Ansah who in 1988 mooted the idea leading to the establishment of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) further added that "My office has been able to train over 500 women in this District (Asuogyaman) in alternative livelihood empowerment skills in various modules. These are the baking of bread and pastries, beads making, batik making, soap and detergent production as well as make-up and decorations".

He again observed that some 47 young people from Asuogyaman have been gainfully employed in various public and private sector organizations through his positive influence since 2016.

Counting on the support received from Mr. Paul Asare Ansah by the Education Directorate in Asuogyaman, the District Director Mavis Oparebea Yirenkyi shown a sincere gratitude to Paul Ansah for his numerous support to the Education Directorate.

The Education Director revealed that "Mr. Paul Asare Ansah has over the years been the back bone of the Education Directorate as we fall on him to organize competitive programmes for our schools boost their confident, and also equip the for external competition such as the basic education certificate exams (BECE), West Africa Secondary School Certificate Exams (WASSCE)"

He sponsored the mock exams for the 2018 BECE candidates in the District, organised vacation classes for all 1732 candidates who wrote the exams in the District paying teachers in Asuogyaman to teach the candidates for three weeks before their main examination.



He again but all examination materials for the then candidates ranging from Mathematical set, pens and rulers, provision of transport allowance for pupils who needed to commute to the exams centres and also buying all items on prospectus for 15 students in public school who scored aggregate Six to ten in the 2018 BECE exams after providing each of them with Ghs 300.00 as chop money before leaving for their various Senior High Schools.

You have again introduced Paul Ansah SHS Quiz Competition for our senior high school and has promised to organized extra classes for our final year student we say ayikoo.

On his part the District Chief Executive Samuel Kwame Agyekum who was overwhelmed by the effort of the Director General at the Ministry of Transport paid a tribute to Paul Ansah after outlining the interventions put in place to make education quality and accessibly free to every Ghanaian child of school going age which includes the free SHS dubble truck policy.

"It is indeed true you have dedicated your life to the development of Asuogyaman in the area of Education, Youth Empowerment, and Economic Well-being of the women in Asuogyaman. You have also offered a lot of support for several developmental projects undertaken by the Communities, Schools and Churches" the District Chief Executive paid tribute to Paul Asare Ansah.

He called on other well-meaning citizens of Asuogyaman to come together to raise the image of Asuogyaman District to boost the education and other socio economic development in the District.

The three contesting students who mastermind the victory for the Akosombo International Senior High School were Master's Papafio Michael, Ahenkorah Michael and Miss Lois Otchi with Master's Samuel Asare and Anthony Gborgenu as the teachers who trained them.
