Speaking at the event, the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Mrs. Margaret Darko Darkwa applauded farmers for their dedication to serving mother through farming.

The MCE said agriculture has been the backbone of Ghana’s economy since pre-colonial times, and as the population keeps on increasing with a projected population of about 30.74 million by 2020, there is the need to encourage farming communities to increase production in all food crops to be able to attain a level of food sufficiency.

She continued that agricultural production alone will not solve the problem as other issues such as poor road networks hinder the movement of food crops to market centers and storage/processing facilities in various districts. Government therefore has the responsibility to construct roads to link communities, build storage/processing facilities and develop markets for these commodities.
