The communal labour has become necessary after a successful dredging of the river by the Assembly but the tunnels under the bridge remained chocked.

The DCE said the measure is to prevent further loss of lives due to flooding. He stated that about five lives have so far been lost over the years whenever the river overflows its banks, adding that not only are people’s lives in danger during such periods, but also vehicles.

River Amemle is said to have flown through all the seven communities in Peki and impacts meaningfully to the livelihoods of the people, and it is deemed important to keep it flowing to keep serving the people.

The bridge is also sinking in and needs a new one to prevent eminent disaster which will cut the communities from each other.

Mr. Dzadzawa said government is doing its best as evident in the disilting exercise that has taken place already, but appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to reconstruct the bridge, or any assistance from the organisations.

The Assembly Member for Avetile West Electoral Area, Seyram Kafui Akude also spoke about the bridge stating there is high flow of water through the bridge and the current state needs improvement by way of constructing a new one and like the DCE, he also appealed for government support in achieving that.
