The bridge collapsed together with a trunk loaded with logs from Tangasougo in Burkina Faso into the Gugura River on March 23, 2022.

The Minister said when he received a report of the collapsed bridge, it was immediately forwarded to Accra, adding that several follow-ups were made, and was hopeful that urgent measures would be put in place to enable commuters to access the road.

“It's a terrible situation, l am working hard to make sure the bridge is worked on to give some respite to the motorists who commute daily on this road. When it was not raining, it was better but now that the rains have started it is not easy,” he said.
The Minister, in the company of some key Heads of Departments and top management of the Regional Coordinating Council said this when he spoke to Journalists after he paid a working visit to the District to inspect ongoing projects and to interact with staff of the Assembly.

Some of the ongoing projects the Minister inspected included the Agenda 111 project and the new District Assembly block. He cautioned commuters on that stretch of road to be extremely careful to prevent any accident, and urged the Feeder Roads Department to collaborate with the District Assembly to erect appropriate precautionary sign posts on the road.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Gerard Ataogye said the bridge linked the entire eastern side of the District to its capital, Paga, and therefore, the present situation had created some inconveniences to residents.

The DCE appreciated challenge commuters; especially the teachers and nurses who used the road daily to work faced, and pleaded with them to bear with the Assembly as plans were underway to remedy the situation.
