He failed to secure the two-third majority in his first attempt having polled 30 Yes votes out of the total of 54.

However, on Tuesday night voting, which was his second attempt, Mr. Collins Ofinam Takyi got the endorsement of all assembly with 37 votes in his favour out of the total 54 votes.

There was a heavy police presence at the palace of the Tano South which served as the venue for the election of the MCE. This was done to curtail any violent reaction from any individual and to ensure a peaceful process.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Takyi expressed his gratitude to the Regional Minister, chiefs and queen mothers and all the assembly members for the trust reposed in him and pledged to work to advance the cause of the municipality.

He said even though he is the head of the assembly, “you the assembly members would be doing the greater part of the works”.

He said he was opened for advice and asked the members not to hesitate to draw his attention whenever he was going ‘wayward’.
