Mr. Osei Asibey-Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), asked that they stayed back from turf fight and should not arrogate to themselves powers they did not have.

He reminded that it was not within their mandate to legislate or enact bye-laws, adding that, their role was largely to complement the work of the assembly members.

They should concentrate on assisting the assembly in its revenue collection, enumerating and keeping records of all taxable persons and properties, organizing communal labor, and monitoring the implementation of development projects in their communities.

The 92 committees could not be inaugurated for almost 24 months because of the confusion over the election of the Presiding Member of the assembly.

Mr. Osei-Asibey urged them to do more to support the revenue mobilization drive of the KMA.

He said there was huge motivation for that because they would retain 50 per cent of all monies collected on behalf of the assembly for development projects within their sub-district councils and areas of jurisdiction.

The MCE counseled that they collaborated with chiefs and other stakeholders in the local governance and said this was vital to the achievement of set development goals.

He underlined his determination to bring back Kumasi to its past beautiful scenery, which earned it the pride of ‘Garden City of West Africa’ and challenged the committees to identify with the vision.

Mr. Abrahim Boadi, the Presiding Member, told them not to betray the trust of the people - they should make sure they lived up to expectation.
