The engagement was to sensitize and solicit for views and inputs of stakeholders to ensure a successful roll-out of the reclamation program in the district.

In a welcome address, the District Chief Executive for Atiwa West, Mr. Seth Asante lauded the Government for initiative and expressed the Assembly’s commitment towards a successful implementation of the project.

Mr. Evan Yarquah, a member of the survey and geoscience team, giving an overview of the reclamation (earth) work process, explained that the team would first have to study the area to be informed about the design or approach to reclaim the mined out pits.

He said pits filled with water must first be dislodged of the water before putting in the topsoil. The process is to restore the deteriorated illegal mining sites into normalcy by levelling and planting trees.

Stakeholders at the program assured NAELP of their support and cooperation and asked that lands when restored must be protected such that those lands are not destroyed again.

The reclamation exercise which is to be carried out in the Abomosu enclave of the district and to be executed by Savannah Grande Company Limited and Nathawo Properties & Investment Limited is expected to take off on July 15, 2022 and be completed in 12 months.

Participants present at the program included the queen mother of Abomosu, Nana Konadu Kontie II, the District Coordinating Director, Madam Emelia Osaadu, the District Police Commander, and Superintendent Harold Opoku Yamoah, heads of department and opinion leaders.
