In all, about 80 shops and goods worth millions of Ghana Cedis were razed down by the fire.

Some trader have already attributed the fire outbreak to a gas explosion from some suspected Nigerians who were cooking at the time the incident took place, although actual cause of the fire is still unknown.

“There are some Nigerians who have been cooking in the Market in the evening and people who were around during the time of the fire said they heard a blast from that side”, Habiba Mohammed Muntari, one of the traders said in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com.

Speaking at a Press briefing this morning, Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Nana Agyemang Prempeh assured the affected traders of government’s support to enable them bounce back to business.

He said the traders have however been asked to present a written report about the extent of damage done to their shops in order to warrant the support.

According to him, government would also liaise with the market executives to find lasting solution since this was the fourth time such incident had happened in the market.

He revealed that Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Police Service were currently investigating to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey constituency, Ms Zanetor Rawlings has admonished traders to eschew partisan politics at this present moment but rather work together in unity to end the rampant fire outbreaks.

She also pledged her support for the traders to get back to business.
