Sanitation and Water Resources Minister to participate in sorting of refuse
Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah had promise to join to sort out refuse at transfer station near Korle Bu in the coming days.

She made this remarks when, she paid a day working visit to illegal dumping sites in the capital, and visited the transfer station where she witnessed sorting being done; metals separated from, plastics and papers.

Mayor of Accra, Adjei Sowah in briefing the Minister indicated to her that usually young women engage in sorting out of waste and tricycle which are own privately that bring waste to the station if found out they dump refuse illegally on their way to the transfer station are punished.

He further pointed out that they are given numbers and special Accra Metropolitan Assembly stickers (AMA) to ensure proper monitoring of their activities.



Madam Cecilia Dapaah suggested to the Mayor to consider fining private tricycle owner rather than confiscating for a week as a form of punishment, for those who dump refuse on the road instead of taking them to the transfer station.

At Agbogloshe illegal dumping site, she indicated that she would be working hand in hand with his colleague Minister Professor Frimpong Boateng, Minister for Environment Science and Technology, “This would ensure that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city is achieved, it is achievable, we talk about Free Senior High School (SHS) people said it was not achievable”, he said.

The Minister’s last visit was at Osu, behind the Castle, where the Mayor of Accra Adjei Sowah pointed out that mostly the refuse seen at the banks of the river are from upstream Akwapim mountain whiles others are from outside Ghana.
