JOMORO: Farmers receive training on fall armyworms control
A total of 235 farmers in six communities in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region, have been sensitized on how to prevent and control fall armyworms in their farms.

Some of the Communities are Ankasa, Awiafutu town and Mpataba. Participants were also trained on how to identify the eggs, larva Pupae and moths to help protect their farms.

The training, formed part of programmes and activities rolled out by the government to help educate farmers who were registered under the flagship planting for food and jobs (PFJs) initiative in the area.


Touching on other developments in the sector, the government, in effort to aid agric-production in the area, has also supplied a total of 102.4 litres of chemicals to help spray about 190 hectares of maize farms and 2 hectares of rice fields in 28 communities.

The communities include, Elubo, Mpaesem, Tannie, Kotanasi, Ghana Nungua, Susuka, Esikrom, Half Assini Ekpu, Adusuazo, Awiafutu Town, Sowudadzem, Amokwaw Suazo, New Edobo, Atweabanso,Jaway and Anlomatupe.


The rest are New Ankasa, Ekwasa, Mentukwa, Nyebonu, Kojo Black, Wofanepo Mpataba, Samenye, Tikobo No.2, Nvellenue and Bawia.

About 246 Farmers (138 males and 108 females) in municipality received the support.


Meanwhile, the Assembly, through the Agric department has mounted three pheromone traps at Half – Assini, Tikobo No.1 and Elubo to check the presence of the female moths of the pest.
