Asutifi North District cuts sod for water overhead tank at Kenyasi No.1

The Asutifi North with its partners is implementing a 12-year initiative (Asutifi North District Ahonidie – ANAM) that seeks to promote universal access to safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to about 84,000 inhabitants of the District by the year 2020.

Anthony Adjei Mensah (Asutifi North District Assembly DCE), in his address, gave the history of ANAM – WASH.

How it started, their partners and the team traveling to other countries to learn and acquire knowledge on the initiative. In his address, he said the WASH initiative has come a long way in drilling and maintaining a lot of boreholes in schools and communities in the district.

World Vision and Safe Water Network has provided one of the overhead tank water to Wamahinso and Gambia and now in Kenyasi No. 1 to provide as such he said. He urged the citizenry in Kenyasi No.1 to see the project as their own and take good care of it once it’s completed.

According to Mr. Kofi Prepreh from Safe Water Network, the project will last for six months and plead to the youth to be of support when the project commences. Pumping tests and drilling of water have already been done, so we are sure the water can supply the whole community. Meanwhile, ten standpipes will be there to support the project he added.

He further stated that the Community Sensitization Team will come and sensitize the community members on how to use the ATM Water Dispenser since there will be no vendors to be taking money. Mr. Edward Adwonyo was introduced as the contractor for the project and seek for full security of the pipes against theft.

Mr. Rubel Country Director for World Vision thanked their donor, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for their massive support. We have estimated $70000 which will be invested in the project he reiterated.

Partners for the ANAM WASH initiative are the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation – IRC Ghana, Safe Water Network, Netcentric Campaigns, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Aquaya Institute, and World Vision International Ghana.

Thanks was given to the Chief and community members for their cooperation by giving out the piece of land for the project.

In attendance were the Chiefs and Queen Mothers, Heads of Department, Community Leaders and Members, DCE and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate.
