The meeting which started with a procession through some principal streets of Lawra and ended at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly block had very distinguished personalities such as the Paramount chief of Lawra, Naa Puowele Karbo III as the Special Guest, former Presiding Member, Mr Stephen Kpeng, joining them at the ground.

Speaking at the meeting, the MCE touted some of the achievements his administration and govt have done in supporting PLWD and alleviating their suffering and urged them to take advantage of some of the policies to enable them to write themselves off poverty.

Some of the policies include the free SHS, 1V1D, the increment of their (disability) common fund allocation, Planting for jobs and export, Planting for food and jobs.

The MCE didn't hide his joy in praising one of the blind associations in the village of Boo for taking advantage of the Planting for jobs and export by planting over 5 acres of cashew seedlings supplied by the Assembly. He asked others to emulate their colleagues from Boo to improve upon their living conditions.

Mr Martin also used the opportunity to highlight some of the goodies for the disabled people in the municipality, amongst them is the promise of an ultramodern disability office complex for them by the Gender Minister.

On disability friendly buildings, he apologised to the group of the unfriendly nature of the Assembly block and said that, the engineers who designed it over 3 decades ago didn't take into consideration PLWD which in his view was bad but promise that the assembly is making sure that any new building abides by the disability act.

The secretary of the group did not mince words in calling on his colleagues to help him thank the Hon. MCE for really showing that he loves them by giving them a more spacious and well-renovated office.

The secretary went further to appeal for some more support by outlining some of their problems bedevilling the group.

The Paramount chief assured them of his protection in his traditional area as people sometimes tend to stigmatise them in their various communities because of their physical and mental disabilities. "I have asked the all my subchiefs especially the Queen Mothers to take a special interest in people who insult and abuse people with disabilities and met out appropriate sanctions on them".

The king of Lawra went further to tell them to feel free to report any kind of abuse to him since his traditional council does not taboo disable visiting the palace.
