The Ashanti Manpong branch office of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust SSNIT has organized a day’s seminar for employers on its new operational business suite OBS in Atebubu.

According to Mr. Briimah Skudjo the branch manager, the seminar forms part of a series of intended public education exercises, aimed at educating stakeholders on the OBS which is a new application system for the administration of social security which seeks to deliver superior service to its clients.

He said the OBS which will soon begin involves the enrolment and update of employer and employee records as well as a biometric registration of existing and new members.

Mr. Skudjo enumerated the objectives of the new system to include: the provision of multiple service delivery channels, a reduction in membership enrolment cycle time, elimination of multiple registration, reduction in fraud, the facilitation of member identity management, reduction in benefits processing time and effective collaboration with stakeholders.

Under the new system SSNIT will establish new 9 digit numbers for all employers whiles existing members with 8 digit numbers will receive 13 digit alphanumerical social security numbers.

Registration channels such as the SSNIT portal www.ssnit.org.gh, branch offices and contact centers will be made available to employers whiles employees will additionally benefit from the services of  mobile biometric units who will visit various establishments to register  members.

All new members will be registered biometrically whiles existing members will undergo biometric registration and provided with smart membership cards within 2 weeks of approval of application.

Information kiosks fitted with automated machines will be one of the key channels for service delivery to customers under the OBS where member information can be accessed, information updated, life certificates confirmed, accounts printed, transaction status verified and other general enquiries made on a 24 hour basis using the smart cards.

Participants asked questions on issues bothering their minds whiles Mr. Skudjo and the compliance officer Mr. Henry Ohipeni provided answers to them.
