World Vision Ghana (WVG), an international NGO, has presented medical supplies worth GH 63,709 to Saboba District Health Management Team (DHMT) as part of activities marking this years World Malaria Day.

The items included Anaesthetic instruments and kits with tubes and tubular needles, oxygen and aerosol therapy apparatus, arts and accessories, rubber gloves, and medicines.

Mr Micah Ayo Olad, Child Health National Coordinator of WVG, who announced this at the World Malaria Day celebration at Nayil in the district of the Northern Region, at the weekend , said the presentation demonstrated WVGs continued support to the government to improve the health status of children, families and communities.

He noted that malaria is one of the major leading causes of child deaths in the district and the region at large, hence the marking of the day to sensitise the public for a behavioural change to prevent the disease especially among pregnant women and children under five.

He commended the free maternal delivery system across the country and the establishment of more midwifery training schools, saying these are crucial in the fight to end preventable deaths like diarrheoa and malaria.

In an address read on his behalf, Mr John Ali Adolf, District Chief Executive noted that efforts at controlling malaria had resulted in significant gains with the disease related deaths in the population reducing significantly.

Mr James Asedem, Operational Base Team Leader in-charge of Savelugu Operations of WVG, who presented the medical supplies to the DHMT, encouraged mothers to always send their children to health facilities to be treated and not to fetish priests.

Ms Elizabeth Tigaa, Saboba District Public Health Nurse, who received the medical supplies on behalf of Ghana Health Service, thanked WVG for the kind gesture.

She said 11 health facilities in the district would benefit from the medical supplies.

Ms Tigaa advised traditional birth attendants to make sure that pregnant women deliver at health facilities.
