An ambitious plan to provide potable water to all communities in the Ketu North District has so far seen significant impact with the drilling of one hundred and seventy boreholes (170).

A nongovernmental organization, Life Time Well which is collaborating with the district assembly to achieve this target is providing logistics and carrying out the drilling and installations while the district assembly provides money, human resource, details of the areas among other needs for successful completion of the boreholes.

District Chief Executive for the Ketu North District, Kofi Lawson speaking on the projects indicated that each borehole is suppose to serve not more than 300 people hence the number of boreholes for a community is strictly determined by population.

Funds for the project, he stated, came from the Local Service Delivery and Governance Programme (LSDGP) a fund under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development dedicated to improve water and sanitation in communities.

According to the DCE, a good number of the boreholes so far drilled can produce 20 to 100 gallons per minute; hence can be mechanized to serve more communities. The difficulty, however, lies in raising funds for such project especially for the construction of overhead tanks which cost so much.

He commended Life Time Well for the programme.
