A two-day forum code-named ‘ Gonjaland Economic Forum”  is to be opened in Accra tomorrow March 4, at the Best Western Premier Hotel  to officially discuss investment opportunities within the Gonja Kingdom.

The two day forum reportedly hopes to fashion out a strategic draft document that will be the guide to making Gonjaland the first choice destination for any investor within and outside Ghana.

Gonjaland has huge prospects in investment which cut across in some critical sectors of the economy, but the place is losing its credence in investment opportunities because much of its potentials are under-utilized.
Following this the King of Gonja has tasked few like-minded Gonjalanders to ensure this lack of significant investment is made a thing of the past by putting together this two-day forum.

The forum will discuss thematic Areas on Agriculture (Crops, Fishing and Animal Husbandry), Tourism, Mining, Corporate Social Responsibility, Renewable Energy, Infrastructure and Social Services as well as Youth Empowerment.
 
Gonjaland occupies 19% of the landmass of Ghana and 54% of that of the Northern Region. About 70% of the entire Black Volta and 30% of the White Volta flow through the Gonjaland area. This makes the lack of significant investment in Gonjaland quite intriguing. Gonjaland currently produces about 12% of Ghana’s total maize output, about 48% of total yam output, over 50% of the total groundnut output.

According to research and facts available, Gonjaland has the capacity to produce more than a million tonnes of groundnut, a million tonnes of wheat, 500 thousand tonnes of soyabean, 27 million tonnes of raw sugar, 8 million tonnes of banana, and 750 thousand tonnes of oil palm.
