Mr Emmanuel Lartey, District Chief Executive of the Shai Osu-Doku District Assembly (SODA) has charged staff of the Assembly to pursue financial self reliance by raking more revenue into its Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

He said, " My position has always been that the district is well endowed with resources that should be able to sustain and develop the communities without any external growth.”

He gave the charge on Wednesday when he addressed the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Assembly.

The DCE indicated that "the hitch had been that appropriate strategies have not been put in place to tap these potential revenues".

He urged town/area council chairmen in the district to equally explore the numerous revenue potential areas within their jurisdictions that had remained untapped.

Mr Lartey cautioned that any act or inaction of revenue collectors that went to hinder SODA’s revenue collection drive would be ruthlessly resisted by his administration.

"I would like to specifically charge the District Finance Officer to ensure that potential areas of revenue leakages be properly blocked to ensure that we reap the benefit of our revenue mobilization", he added.

The DCE announced that the district would benefit from agro-processing facilities from the Ministry of Trade and Industry to add value to some of the agricultural products from the area especially rice and mango.

Mr Emmanuel Adjartey, Presiding Member of SODA, called for the formation of a monitoring and evaluation team to implement recommendations made by the house.

He lamented that when recommendations were made by the house were not implemented with the excuse that either there was no money or it escaped staff and administration.

The PM also questioned the incessant use of the old name of the assembly ’Dangme East District’ by some departments of the Assembly even though the name of the Assembly had changed.

He reminded authorities of such departments to as a matter of urgency change the inscription of the old name on their properties and used the new name, Shai Osu-Doku District.

Alhaji Haruna Abdul Salam was introduced to the house as the new District Co-ordinating Director posted to SODA from the Asutifi North District in the Brong Ahafo Region.
