The Kintampo South District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa has reiterated the need for Ghanaians to appreciate the invaluable role teachers play in the development of education.

He advised parents to effectively support and respect teachers to encourage them in the upbringing and development of their children.

Hon. Datiakwa was addressing a gathering of teachers, parents and students at a send-off party for Mr. Enoch Osei-Sarfo, District Director of Education at Jema.

He paid glowing tribute to Mr. Osei-Sarfo for his hard work and for the improvement in the standard of education in the area since he assumed duty three years ago.

Kintampo South placed 133 out of the 138 districts in Ghana in the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), but the out-going director’s hard work propelled the district to place 118 in the 2008 examinations, the DCE said.

Hon. Datiakwa announced that the Assembly had enacted bye-laws to help curb the growing indiscipline among school children, which had contributed to the falling standard in education.

A citation from the Ghana Education Service Council commended Mr. Osei-Sarfo for his 40 years dedicated service to education, as well as, untiring efforts in pursuing education.

Mr. Osei-Sarfo expressed appreciation to his colleagues and other heads of department and called for the collaborative efforts of teachers, parents and all stakeholders to play their respective roles, to enhance education in the district.
