A level 200 student of the University of Ghana, Legon, Ishaq Adbullah Farrakhan, has been elected elected the President of the Adansi Students Union (ADSU) of the school.

He was elected unopposed and will serve a two-year term.

Also elected were Lydia Obeng, Vice President; Kwabena Pobi, secretary; Stephen Agyekum; Financial Secretary; Ezekiel Forson;
Public Relations Officer; Shadrach Ehurone, women’s commisioner
and Christopher Owusu, organiser.

Formed four years ago, ADSU aims at lobbying for development in
the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region and encouraging the youth
in the area to enrol in schools.

The big towns in the Adansi area are Obuasi, Fomena and New Edubiase.

In a speech, Mr. Farrakhan urged Anglogold Ashanti, the multinational mining company which operates in the area, to embark on projects that would help alleviate the effects of mining on the people.

He urged the company to build schools and hospitals and repair the roads in the area as part of corporate social responsibility.

He encouraged the youth to change their attitudes towards education, adding that education would open thier minds and prepare them for the challenges ahead.

Without that, he said they could not live any meaningful life.
