The Akuse police Command, under Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bernard Twum barimah, has arrested four suspected armed robbers who have been terrorishing residents of the area in recent times.

The four robbers, who were arrested recently during one of their nocturnal activities, include Philip Annor, Ahiadozi Johnson, Anthony Amewugah and Asare Franklin, all residents of Odumase.

In all, about 19 residents of the area, including one Captain Frederick Adjaben of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA), and Rev. Frank Katomanya Akatsi of the Goshen Church of God Mission, have been robbed of thousands of Ghana cedis and personnel effects.

Rev. Akatsi, and one other person whose name was not readily given as at the time of filing this report, unlike the other victims, were not lucky, as they were subjected to severe beatings by the robbers, and in the process sustained gunshots wounds in the left leg and left thigh respectively.

Speaking to a cross-section of the media at Odumase a few weeks ago shortly after an identification parade for the victims to identify the robbers, ASP Barimah disclosed that the area, in the past four months, had at the heads of these unscrupulous individuals.

According to him, frantic attempts by his outfit to arrest the situation had not been successful, until recently, when luck eluded the armed robbers.

He explained that his office, over the weekend, received a phone call from one Dennis about an armed robbery attack at Somanya-Kotokoli, however, before his team reached the scene the robbers had taken to their heels.

He continued that on its way back from the scene, the police patrol team stopped a taxi cab suspecting that the robbers were in it, but the driver sped away.

The Akuse police Commander continued that the police gave it a hot chase, and in the process Asare Franklin was arrested, and upon a thorough search, a double barrel gun, four pieces of black T-shirts and 23 cartridges were found.

ASP Barimah said Asare was taken to the Somanya Police Station, and upon interrogation, mentioned the names of the other accomplices, who were later arrested at their various hideouts.

They have been subsequently been remanded into prison custody by an Odumase Circuit court, whilst a bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of six others who are on the run.

The Akuase Police Command has appealed to their general public to make information available to the police, to assist in the arrest of criminals.

Narrating his ordeal to the paper, Rve. Akatsi said he was at his residence when he heard unusual barking by his dogs around 10:00 p.m. on that fateful day.

This he emphasized, compelled him to wake up to see what was happening, and he went round the building.

He said no sooner had he got to his entrance, after a fruitless search than the robbers asked him to surrender whatever he was having in his room at a gunpoint, which he complied with, but the robbers not happy, and subjected him to severe beating, and in the process shot his left leg.
