Central Gonja celebrates 34th Farmers’ Day
The chiefs and people of Central Gonja District in the northern region have joined the rest of Ghana to celebrate our gallant farmers on the occasion of the 34th farmers day. The occasion, which was held in Kpabuso,saw the attendance of chiefs, heads of institutions, farmers and opinion leaders participating.

In addressing the gathering, the DCE for the Central Gonja District Assembly; Hon Mahama Mustapha conveyed warm regards from the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo* to the hard working farmers, indicating the president's recognition of all their efforts towards national development.

The DCE made a clarion call on all and sundry to support the governments flagship program on agriculture dubbed 'Planting for Food and Jobs'. He implored "the programme must be embraced seriously by all farmers and by extension, all of us so that as a country we can produce more for our local consumption and for export".



He noted that even though the program was faced with setbacks such as the fall army worm endemic, the government was able to commit resources into fighting it. He added, that this years theme for the celebrations which is 'Moving Ghana Beyond Aid' was in line with Governments vision of attaining self-sufficiency and prosperity for all Ghanaians.



The DCE also disclosed his district had selected cashew as an exportable cash crop and for 2018, 80,000 seedlings of cashew were raised and distributed to cashew farmers across the District. He appealed to farmers who have benefited to take good care of them because cashew has now become the most beneficial cash crop in Ghana.



In his closing remarks, the DCE made a passionate appeal to all residents of the district to appreciate the peace they enjoyed and urged them to guard it jealously for development.

He was quick to add, that processes leading to the creation of the proposed Savannah Region were far advanced with the elections scheduled to take place on the 27th of December, 2018 and everyone must come out in their numbers to vote YES to make it a success.
