SUAMAN: Skills of farmers to be enhanced in mushroom, rice production.
The Suaman District Assembly together with the Agriculture Ministry will kick start the full implementation of a medicinal mushroom and rice mile project to enhance livelihood of the people in the district.

his was discussed during a town hall meeting organized by the Assembly for the chiefs and people of the district.

The District Chief Executive of Suaman, Christian Baah who disclosed this in an interview with ghanadistricts.com assured that, this will help reduce the rate of poverty in the district.

He added that it will help the youth to get monies in their pocket when the cocoa season is over, and more importantly help engage the youth that are not working to get something to do to improve their living standards.

Mr. Baah said since cocoa is cultivated once a year, it makes the people handicaped when the season is over unlike the mushroom and rice that can be cultivated two to three times a year.

He said the purpose of the meeting was to bring all key stakeholders up to speed on issues concerning the implementation of the projects.

Mr. Baah said the enrolment of clients was a shared responsibility and appealed to the Agric Directors to help educate the public on the use of the machineries.

He said the assembly is aware of its indebtedness to contractors, adding that proactive measures are being put in place to clear the debt, but all the same they are going to continue the ongoing projects that were left by the past government with zero payment.

 

 

The DCE also appealed to the farmers to also take it upon themselves to educate their children and urged them to enroll at their various communities to enhance sustainability.
