According to him, “Ghana beyond Aid is also MMDAs beyond Aid”, hence; it is imperative for all local Assemblies to develop innovative means of generating funds internally to help fulfill the President’s dream of moving the country from the shameful spectacle of depending on foreign financial assistance to fund its projects and initiatives.

Although the ‘Ghana beyond Aid’ policy, which is being advocated by President Akufo Addo has received several commendations from various world leaders and international financial institutions, others including former Vice President of Ghana, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur have described the President’s vision as a mere rhetoric.

However, Nana Ato Arthur who was speaking at a two-day International workshop on Project Financing and Access to Global Funds for various MMDAs at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi expressed confidence that, the President’s vision can be achieved and made workable if MMDAs engineer and spearhead the process by seeking to present immense opportunities in wealth creation for the ordinary Ghanaian citizenry.

He thus urged various Assemblies to free their minds from dependence on funds from external sources but rather focus on how best to improve Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to finance their numerous projects and programmes.

He explained that the ‘Ghana beyond Aid’ is a policy framework supported heavily by a planned action from the government to help move Ghana to the next generation where it will solely fund its projects and policies without depending on so much foreign aid.

Nana Ato Arthur concluded with a call on all Ghanaians to rally behind the President to help make his laudable vision a success.
