The market centres constructed at Mankuma and Mandari communities through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) is intended to provide a serene environment for business activities.

Madam Heming speaking at a community durbar to commission the facility said the newly constructed markets would enable residents of the two communities to undertake their day to day economic trading activities to improve their lives as well as increase revenue generation.

She said the importance of a market centre in the rural communities cannot be over emphasized regarding the significant role it plays in the local economy of community members as well as revenue generation at the district level for implementation of development projects.

Madam Heming said there is the need for all district assemblies to invest the tax payer’s monies into developmental projects through the provision of basic social amenities such as market centres, clinics, toilet facilities as well as schools.

She said “Whenever you pay tax to the district assembly, those taxes are sent back to the communities for developmental projects”.

Madam Heming appealed to residents within the district to be responsible in honouring their tax obligation in order to increase the revenue generation of the central government for the implementation of transformational projects such as road infrastructure, potable drinking water, improved healthcare facilities, as well as educational facilities.

Mr Sumani Thomson Abu, Assemblyman for the Mankuma Electoral Area expressed gratitude to the DCE for embarking on the project within the district to support community livelihood.

Mr Abu said previously the incidences of fire outbreak as well as the harsh weather condition were a major challenge to business activities, which contributed to low patronage of the market by neighbouring communities.

He said he will ensure that, the market stalls are distributed to traders who would take proper care of the facility, stressing that the right measures would be put in place to ensure a good maintenance culture.

Mrs Abubakari Salamatu, a trader, said the newly constructed market centre is a major relief adding it would boost economic activities in the area as well as create more business opportunity for residences within the community.

She expressed gratitude to the DCE for constructing a modern market, saying “The efforts of the DCE to bring development to the doorstep of residents, especially women within the district would not go unnoticed”.

Madam Hawa Mahama, a trader, said the new market would help to sustain business trading activities in the communities as well as creating integration among the diverse culture grouping within the district.
