Bawku West District Assembly donates Sport kits to SHSs
The Bawku West District Assembly in the Upper East Region on Wednesday donated sports kits valued at GH¢6,900 to three Second Cycle Schools in the area.

The schools include the Zebilla Senior High School, Kusanaba Senior High School and Kusanaba Vocational Training School.

The sport kits which include 27 sets of jerseys and 27 footballs are meant to improve upon sporting activities in the District and were made possible through the District Assembly’s Common Fund.

Each of the four Houses of the Zebilla Senior High School and the Kusanaba Senior High School took one set of jerseys and a football each with each of the two schools also presented with six sets of jerseys and six footballs for their football teams.

The Kusanaba Vocational School was presented with three sets of jerseys and three footballs.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Alhaji Imoro Anaba who presented the items to the schools, reminded the students that one of the cardinal principles of sports was to enhance unity among people, which he noted was paramount for peaceful socio-economic development.

Alhaji Anaba entreated the students to live in harmony and peace with each other and to study hard to enable them become responsible citizens to contribute the development of the country.

He also impressed on the students to train harder to win more laurels in sports for their Schools and promised that the Assembly would reward schools that excel in sporting activities.

The DCE emphasized that the Government was committed to development of education and said that was why it continues to put up more infrastructure in schools and provide free school uniforms, exercise books as well as increase the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme.

Alhaji Anaba mentioned the multi-purpose Dinning Halls and dormitories dotted all over the Senior High Schools in the Region as example of government’s commitment to development of education and called on the students to study hard to justify the huge investments government makes on education.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly told the students about the benefits that could be accrued from sports and said that people who engage in sports have the potentials of improving both their academic and sporting talents.

He added that many sports men and women have gained employment, especially into the security services because of their abilities in sports.

The Headmistress of the Zebilla Senior High School, Madam Catherine Mbon who thanked the Assembly for the donation on behalf of her colleagues said hitherto the schools had no sports kits and that affected them during sporting competitions with their counterparts and said the provision of the sports kits would boost the moral of the students in their sporting activities.

She pledged that the management of the schools would put the items into good use to enable it achieved its intended purpose.
