North East Gonja District was carved out of East Gonja Municipal Assembly on November, 2018 by a legislative Instrument (LI) 2367 and was inaugurated in February, 2019. The Capital of North East Gonja District is Kpalbe.

Location and Size

The District shares boundaries with the Mion District and Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to the north, Central Gonja District to the west, Nanumba North Municipal to the east, and East Gonja Municipal to the south. The total land area of the district is estimated to be 3,500 square kilometres. The district has 87 communities.

POPULATION STRUCTURE

Total Population stands at 39, 404. Comprising of 19,907 males and 19,487 females
