The Asunafo South District was curved out of the then Asunafo North Muncipal in 2004 by an Act of Parliament through a Legislative Instrument 1773 and is the highest Administrative and Political authority within its sphere of influence and jurisdiction. It has kukuom as its capital.

The Asunafo South District shares common boundaries with Asutifi in the North East, Asunafo North District on the North West and Juaboso on the West and Sefwi-Wiaso District in South-West borders.

 

The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 95,580 with 48,836 males and 46,744 females.
