Birim South District forms part of the twenty six (26) Municipalities and Districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The Administrative Capital of the District is Akim Swedru. The District shares boundaries with Birim Central to the north, to the south with Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, to the east with West Akim and to the west with Assin North Municipal. The District was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I)1850.The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 119,767 with 57,981 males and 61,786 females.
