Krachi West District is one of the twenty five (25) Municipalities and Districts in the Volta Region of Ghana with Kete Krachi being its capital. Krachi West District is located at the north-western corner of the Volta Region. It lies between longitudes 0º 05’West and 0º 07’West and latitudes 7º 65’ North and 8º 06’ North. The District was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2078. It is bounded to the east by the Oti River that separates it from the Krachi East District, to the north by the newly created Krachi Nchumuru District and to the south and west by the Volta Lake which separates it from the Sene East District of the Brong-Ahafo Region. It has a total surface area of about 1,074 Square Kilometers of which about 20 per cent is covered by water.
The population of the District according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 49,417 with 25,370 males and 24,047 females.
