Biakoye District forms part of the twenty five (25) Municipalities and Districts in the Volta Region of Ghana. It was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 1887. The Administrative capital Nkonya was part of the new District and Municipalities created in the 2012 by the then president of Ghana H.E J.E.A Mills. The District shares boundaries with K adjebi District to the North, Jasikan District to the south and east, and to the west with Krachi East District.
The population of the municipality according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 65,901 with 33,057 males and 32,844 females.
