Binduri District with its administrative capital Binduri was carved from Bawku Municipal and it forms part of the new districts and municipalities created in the year 2012 and were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012. The District forms part of Thirteen (13) Municipal and Districts in the Upper East Region. 

The District was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 
2107. It shares Boundaries with Bawku Municipal to the North ,Garu- Tempane to the South and East respectively and  Bawku West District to the West.

The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 61,576 with 29,612 males and 31,964 females.
